As we move into the warmer months, Aliesha Noonan & Associates wanted to give you some ideas of how you can enjoy our beautiful part of the world.

This corner of the country is full of activities from amazing solo journeys to fun with the family and great date ideas! Check out what’s going on near you in Connecticut, Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts.

1st (Through August) Dinosaurs in your Backyard, West Hartford Children’s Museum; West Hartford, CT

Step back in time at The Children’s Museum and experience Dinosaurs in your Backyard: A Portal to Past Worlds. Visitors will get a chance to explore dinosaurs that lived in Connecticut during the Jurassic Period through footprints, fossils, bones and more. Become immersed in this prehistoric world with 3D dinosaur models, fossil specimens and replicas, and a dinosaur game show. Through interactive exhibits, families can also learn about what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur and how we’ve determined what they look like.

This new hands-on, interactive exhibit will be sure to be exciting, enlightening and enjoyable for both children and adults!

 

25th Sunset, Cigars & Whiskey Cruise, Essex Steam Train and Riverboat; Essex, CT
Just as cool as it sounds- this is the perfect solo or couples night!  The evening begins with a nostalgic ride aboard a vintage train to Deep River Landing where you’ll join an exclusive group of cigar enthusiasts aboard the Becky Thatcherriverboat. Then take a Sunset, Cigars & Whiskey Cruise along the Connecticut River, sampling three signature premium whiskeys (Knob Creek, Wild Turkey Forgiven, Crown Royal) accented with a hand-rolled, Connecticut-wrapped cigar provided by Up in Smoke.

Enjoy the view as you snack at a Tuscan table of meats, cheeses, and dips. Enjoy both hot and cold hors d’oeuvres including potato pancakes with dill crème’ fraiche and bite-sized smoked salmon on toast. Finish it off with a sumptuous pasta bar including meatballs with classic red and white sauces.

27-29th Gaspee Days Arts & Crafts Festival; Cranston, RI
Gaspee Days takes over Pawtuxet Village in the summer, and why shouldn’t it?! From amazing art to history, community, and a lot of activities for all ages- be sure to check out this festival for local talet.

A weekend of throwbacks for you! Come celebrate a bit of history. Throughout the weekend, farmers perform sheep shearing, while experts show off the sheep herding skills of border collies. Costumed historians will demonstrate the entire wool textile process, from scouring and carding the wool to spinning, and then knitting the hand-spun wool yarn. Visitors can even try their skill at hand-carding the wool.

What we’re known for- the Chowda Fest is sure to please the tastebuds of the whole family on beautiful Block Island! Remember to book your ferry tickets in advance!

1-4th PVD Fest; Providence, RI
Art, music, and a rocking good time. Food trucks and fandom spread through the streets at this unique celebration! Go with friends, take the kids, or head to down city solo and immerse yourself in the amazing musical talents in the great city of Providence!

4th WorldOceans Day; Boston, MA
World Oceans Day is a time to celebrate the efforts of our entire community in protecting the blue planet. The New England Aquarium is inviting the public to a family-friendly festival that showcases the conservation efforts of community groups and organizations.

9th Glowin the Park; Boston, MA
Quickly becoming a favorite annual event in Boston, Glow in the Park is back for its 3rd year! Hosted by the Greenway Conservancy and Glow in the Park’s young professional Co-chairs and Event Committee (see below). Proceeds benefit the non-profit Greenway Conservancy, this is an event unlike any other in Boston! Spend a summer Friday night in one of Boston’s most beautiful and contemporary green spaces while enjoying live music, lawn games, your favorite Greenway food truck, beer, wine, and more!

8-11th Sea Music Festival; Mystic, CT
Mystic Seaport is proud to host its 38th annual Sea Music Festival, one of the world’s premier sea music events. Thousands gather each year to hear an amazing array of performers from across the world perform maritime music ranging from the golden age of sail to the  best of contemporary compositions. This year’s roster of performers includes musicians from Australia, England, France, across the U.S. from Tennessee to Michigan and the Northeast.

10th Gaspee Days Parade; Cranston, RI
Since 1965, the Gaspee Days Committee has continued its efforts to preserve, promote, and share Rhode Island’s revolutionary history with the community – and what better way to do that than with over 50 years of our Gaspee Days Parade that combines elements of the past with the sparkling community of the present? Each year, folks crowd along a two-mile stretch of Narragansett Parkway anxiously awaiting the march of the parade. Be it the fife and drums corps, the fire trucks, or the Shriners in their miniature cars, everyone has a favorite to look forward to!

10th TheGreat Chowder Cook-Off; Newport, RI
The legendary Great Chowder Cook-Off is the original and longest running event of its kind in the nation, and officially kicks off Rhode Island’s summer festivities! (This is the 36th year!)

Enjoy endless samples of traditional and exotic creations from local, national and international competitors. You vote for your favorites and the winners walk away with overflowing prize pots and bragging rights for the year!

10-11th Dragon Boat Festival; Boston, MA
Performances. Arts and crafts demonstrations. Tasty Asian foods.  Join for North America’s longest running Dragon Boat Festival on its 38th year!

17-22nd Tall Ships; Boston, MA
Enjoy these majestic tall ships in the historic Boston Harbor.

18th Father’s Day Car Show Hyannis; Hyannis, MA

23-25th NewportFlower Show; Newport, RI
Transport your imagination to the place that has inspired generations of artists and gardeners – France.  At Rosecliff, modeled after the Grand Trianon of Versailles, you’ll travel on a very French adventure, from grand gardens to urban Paris chic.

24-25th 35th Annual Narragansett Art Festival; Narragansett, RI
00 to 105 Exceptional Fine Art Exhibitors from South County, Rhode Island, New England, and Beyond!   Accepted categories of non-functional fine art include: Oils & Acrylics, Watercolors & Pastels, Drawings & Graphics, Photography, Sculpture, and Other/3-dimensional Media.

24th Zoobilee! Feast with the Beasts, RWP Zoo; Providence, RI
Zoobilee!, presented by ALEX AND ANI, features fine fare from dozens of the area’s best restaurants, caterers and bars, as well as fabulous entertainment including live music and dancing, and other fun surprises! This is an adults-only evening event (21+).

29th Movies in the Park (Sing); Warwick, RI
Bring your family, friends, a blanket or chair and watch a movie while sitting on the grass under the stars at Rocky Point.

8-9th Wickford Art Festival; Wickford, RI
Since 1962, the Wickford Art Association has been the promoter of the Wickford Art festival. This juried, fine art festival features over 200 fine art artists from New England, the US and beyond.  Admission is free for visitors!

11-16th Brimfield FleaMarket; Brimfield, MA
Mark your calendars and book your vacation time and hotel reservations. Antique dealers and collectors travel from throughout the United States and abroad to attend the world famous Brimfield Antique Flea Markets. Considered the oldest outdoor antiques events running for over 50 years, they are held three times each year, in May, July and September for a six day period, always Tuesday through Sunday. The 2017 dates are May 9-14, July 11-16, September 5-10. The Brimfield Flea Markets are actually comprised of about twenty individually owned show fields that have specific opening times, contact information and admissions.
